HAUDENOSAUNEE
The Haudenosaunee were one of the most powerful and influential Indian nations in America. The name Haudenosaunee is an Ancient name meaning the "people of the long houses". This is also a metaphor about their way of life; A group of people and a philosophy in a way of life and customs that streches hundreds and hundreds of miles like their longhouse. These people identify themselves as the Haudenosaunee for them it's a compliment when you call them that because that's what they called themselves. These people are more commonly called The Iroquois, this name was brought with the first europeans who came to North America. This nation originally consisted of 5 nations: the Cayuga, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, and Seneca then in the eighteenth century the Tuscaroras joined.
